UAE’s Sleep Challenges: Residents’ Bedtime Struggles Raise Health Concerns

health

Maintaining regular bedtime routines can be challenging for many UAE residents due to demanding professional lives. However, a comprehensive study has found that irregular sleep patterns—such as inconsistent bedtimes and wake-up times—can increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart failure by 26%, even for those who get a full night’s sleep.

Medical experts in the UAE supported these findings, noting that while previous research emphasized the importance of sleep duration, recommending seven to nine hours of sleep per night for optimal health, this study highlights the critical role of consistency in sleep schedules.

Published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the study revealed that fluctuating sleep routines were “strongly associated” with a significantly higher risk of major cardiovascular events. Notably, even getting eight hours of sleep per night could not mitigate the negative impact of irregular sleep patterns.
