Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday that the Blue Line Metro Project will be completed on September 9, 2029.
The RTA has awarded a Dh20.5 billion contract for the project to three prominent companies—MAPA, LIMAK, and CRRC—from Turkey and China. Paying homage to nostalgia, the project’s start date mirrors the launch date of the city’s vital Green and Red Line metro projects on September 9, 2009 (9/9/2009).
The project will span 30 kilometers, include 14 stations, and operate 28 trains. It is expected to carry 200,000 riders by 2030, with passenger numbers projected to increase to 320,000 by 2040.
The transport network will handle 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions and is projected to reduce traffic congestion on the served road corridors by 20 percent.
The metro line will connect Dubai International Airport to key urban areas along the route, with travel times ranging from 10 to 25 minutes.
